The Uttlesford Ramblers

Making a walk a pleasure

August: Lamarsh to Nayland 9.3miles

After leaving Lamarsh in fine weather the walk soon continued along by the river to the pretty village of Bures with a wartime pillbox situated on the main road. We continued past the church, crossing the river and onto the mill before we negotiated some short climbs to lovely views of the valley below. Taking a detour at Wormington church, which thoughtfully had a box of shoe covers for muddy boots by the door, it was a short walk to the Crown for lunch passing another interesting sight of a water butt connected to the roof of a bus shelter! The afternoon saw the walk leave the river again going along a higher ridge with more good views before coming back down to follow the river and finishing in Nayland with its narrow streets of timber framed buildings.
